RACIAL EQUITY COMMISSION FOR CALIFORNIA COMMUNITY COLLEGES

ABOUT THE RACIAL EQUITY COMMISSION

College Futures Foundation awarded the USC Race and Equity Center a $1 million grant to advance racial equity across California’s Community Colleges. One aspect of this investment entails assembling a commission that brings forth a racial equity-focused model for the system. Over the next two years, this 30-member commission will intentionally reimagine how to meet the specific needs of Asian American, Black, Indigenous, Latinx, Multiracial, and Pacific Islander students across California Community Colleges. We hope a new race-centric model that addresses key areas of guided pathways, policy, funding, governance, classroom curricula and pedagogy, hiring practices, and equity in data use will help accelerate our relentless, ambitious, and strategic pursuit of racial equity. The 30-member commission includes students*, faculty, counselors, directors, deans, vice presidents/vice chancellors, and college presidents/chancellors. Subcommittees of the commission will develop particular parts of the racial equity model for the system. The model will give clear guidance on implementation, assessment, and sustainability.
